Arches Timed Entry
(February 1, 2023 RSVP Open for May dates)
This year, in view of the Arches Park visitation growing 66% in the last decade, the Park Service has initiated a pilot program called the “Timed Entry System.”
Park Visitors wanting to enter Arches Park between 6AM and 5PM must buy a timed entry ticket on the recreation.gov website. The Park Service hopes that Timed Entry System reservations will better distribute vehicles and visitors throughout the day and should provide visitors with an improved experience during their time in the park. Data collected during the program will help determine Timed Entry System’s viability as a traffic congestion solution. If the pilot program successful, timed entry may be implemented in the future as a component of a larger visitor use plan.

Burr Trail Excursion (Grand-Staircase Escalante)
Boulder UT: Grand-Staircase Escalante. Burr Canyon Trail 20 miles scenic road (paved) until gravel road. Lunch at Burr Trail Grill.
Driving the easy portion of Burr Trail Road: Potholes litter the paved road for the first few miles. But once we enter the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument portion of the journey, the road smoothes out before descending into Long Canyon. For seven miles, red sandstone cliffs rise steeply on either side of the narrow canyon. Dark brown streaks of desert varnish leave their mark on the canyon walls. small slot canyon to explore that the locals call Singing Canyon. Geological colors change from red to yellow and beige as the road climbs out of the canyon. The Burr Trail Road highlights some of Grand Staircase-Escalante’s most awe-inspiring scenery. Its three distinct sections contain narrow orange canyons, rust-colored hillsides, and views of Capitol Reef’s Strike Valley. The first portion of the Burr Trail travels through the northeastern corner of Grand Staircase-Escalante. The upper section (paved section) includes Long Canyon and its tributary slot canyon called “Singing Canyon”, Deer Creek campground, and many amazing views. Once you exit Long Canyon there is an amazing panoramic view of the Waterpocket Fold and Circle Cliffs with the Henry Mountains looming in the background

Cell Service
There’s very little cell service in the national parks, and on many roads between them. Download an offline map of your destination so you have it ready when you lose service. Or, buy a paper map of the area as a backup.
