Louie and Cheryl , George , and Rich attended the Birthday Bash in Bowling Green, Kentucky April 24 to April 27. It was a great trip with lots of things happening. There were car shows, seminars on car information, displays of Stingrays, and Oh Yes, the new Z06. One Z06 was a convertible, I am not dillusional, they are making a convertible. It was silver with red interior, very NICE. The Torch Red Z06 was a coupe with black interior. We listened to top GM Engineers tell us about the Z06 and how they are progressing on the final specs. It will be available in September for order. Louie asked Harlan Charles, GM Engineer, if he has driven the Z06. He said about a thousand miles and it is a great car. We toured the factory that is completely retooled. They now make the high performance engines in the factory with a glassed off area that has special exhaust to take engine fumes out from the floor and filter them before expelling them in the atmosphere. They now make the frame, completely aluminum in the Bowling Green facility as well. The workers we talked with are very proud that they have all the parts being made at the factory. Cheryl attended the Ladies Garage, while Louie attended a tech seminar, and learned a lot of interesting facts. It was put on by the ladies of GM, about 15 to 20, engineers, technicians and managers of departments. They talked about the painting procedures, body construction and assembly of the Corvette. There was a session on the engine and transmission of the Corvette and another with the engineer who takes care of the steadiness of the ride together with the engineer who takes care of the interior (seats, console, how everything is within reach of the driver, etc.). Louie looked in and thought it was a better experience than he was having at his session. Of course we can’t forget the Sinkhole, we have all seen the pictures, but to see it in person, OMG, that is a big hole. We were allowed to walk in to where it is fenced off and took pics. Then we continued out of the area to a room where the Sinkhole Eight were displayed for all to see the damage incurred. Yes, the last one is not recognizable and I don’t think there is a part to salvage. At the Winner’s Circle Banquet on Friday night, all donors were announced and presented with various thank you gifts. We are planning on going back in two years to receive the deed to our acre of land, that will be a special occasion. At the Birthday Bash we were entertained with an Elvis impersonator who sang for at least and hour and a half. He was very good and lively getting everyone involved with dancing and singing along. For the trip home we left the hotel at 3:30 am to get to Nashville by 4:30 for boarding at 6:00 am. The flight home was bumpy for most of the trip as we were flying above the weather systems that brought tornadoes across a lot of the country, but the pilot was great at keeping the plane steady. First time for the Birthday Bash and loved every minute.
