SUMMARY:National Corvette Caravan to NCM (Summer 2024)
DESCRIPTION:Webpage Simi Valley Corvettes Lodging \n\nWe will stop in Las Vegas\, Nevada rather than Henderson on the first night. Our second overnight is Bryce Canyon City\, Utah. \nOnce we start east on I-70 we have some other stops in the planning stages and are hoping to firm those up soon. On Day Four\, we cross the Rockies. We’ll drive though picturesque Glenwood Canyon. We’ll pass Vail and other ski resorts and then\, at over 11\,000-feet\, drive through the Eisen- hower-Johnson Tunnel. From there we’ll continue on I-70\, down the slopes of the Colorado front range\, through Denver and an overnight part way across Kansas to Colby\, KS.. On the fifth day we head to Kansas City\, Missouri and then on to Cape Girardeau MO on Day Six. \nThe evening in Cape G was a huge hit in 2014 and 2019. The city rolls out the Red Carpet for sev- eral Caravan Sections in this picturesque “Main Street USA” town on the west bank of the Missis- sippi River. The event\, “Corvettes in Cape\,” is put on by the Corvette Club of southeastern Missouri and the Cape Girardeau Visitor’s Bureau. \nMain St. is a block west of the River and in the afternoon and evening a two-block section of it is closed to traffic and becomes a Corvette show-and-shine. The entire town celebrates America’s Sports car with live bands\, food booths\, beer gardens and other fun activities centered around the Corvette Caravan. \nThat will be our final night on the road. The National Corvette Caravan ends the next afternoon at National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. \nIn total\, we’ll have six nights and seven days on the road. The National Corvette Museum 30th An- niversary Activities begin on Thursday\, August 29th 2024 and continue through Saturday\, August 31. \n\n\n\n\nFirst\, we have this page you are reading on the Caravan website. We\, also\, have the Southwest Caravan eNews\, a tradition going back to 2003. If you are not a subscriber\, send email to SWeNews@netmotive.net and simply type “subscribe” in the body of the email. Past eNews issues are available for download elsewhere on this page. \n\n\n\nFinally\, you can email or call members of the Southwest Caravan Organizing Team for information. \n\n\n\nCapt. SUMMARY:National Corvette Day Run (Thur. June 30\, 2022)
DESCRIPTION:It’s National Corvette Day! \n\n\n\n Sheila and Steve C. are leading the ride to Solvang River Golf Course. We will be meeting at the Simi Town Center at 9:30 and leave at 9:45 will be taking the 118 FWY to the 101 and getting off at the McDonalds at Casitas Pass Road.  We will have a bathroom stop and meet up with the Ventura Corvette Club and Jim the president will lead us the back way to the golf course and restaurant.  \n\n\n\n Please bring $5.00 per person for our charity \n\n\n\nHISTORY OF NATIONAL CORVETTE DAY\n\n\n\nNational Corvette Day is celebrated as a remembrance of the origins of the Corvette — the iconic American sports automobile. The model was introduced in 1953 by the General Motors automobile factory in Michigan. The unique design and sturdiness of the Corvette made it widely popular and it soon became a symbol of American industry and national pride.  \n\n\n\nIn 2008\, the American House of Representatives announced that June 30 would be commemorated as National Corvette Day. Incidentally\, this was the year when GM had completed 100 years of its operations\, which made it the right time to dedicate an entire day in the national calendar to celebrate an important milestone. \n\n\n\nAnother interesting fact is that 2008 was also the year when the American automobile industry\, and the entire economy for that matter\, was undergoing a huge crisis. It was the biggest crisis since the Great Depression and was being felt quite severely by the automobile industry\, including General Motors.  \n\n\n\nTherefore\, by announcing National Corvette Day\, the government also intended to reduce some of the gloom and doom that was being spread about the American automobile industry by celebrating one of its most remarkable achievements.  \n\n\n\nThe decision proved to be timely and well-received because since then National Corvette Day has been celebrated regularly across America and the automobile industry has also recovered from the crisis. Today\, celebrating National Corvette Day has become a symbol of the American people’s faith in their automobile industry and confidence in its prosperous future.
